THE HIGHS OF TRAVEL & RUNNING LONDON
Our Runner of the Week is @richwillrun who shares a love of travel, adventure & running! Best of luck with your London Marathon training 🏃🏻Enjoy the ride!
I’ve always enjoyed running but for years I was content with a quick blast around the park, listening to music and, more often than not, sweating out a hangover! The only goal was trying to keep fit and healthy. I took some time out from running at the end of 2014 to start travelling around the world – 6 months in Southeast Asia, a summer back in London and then another 3 months in South America. Those that have been backpacking will know it doesn’t lend itself to keeping fit!
At the beginning of 2016, after returning from Brazil, I decided to start taking my running and health seriously. I had some work to do to get my fitness back so decided to join @londonmidnightrunners for their Tuesday night 10k run with bootcamp. It was great to be back in London, a city I’m passionate about, running and getting fit. Having a regular meet in the diary and sharing your run with enthusiastic people made a huge difference.
2016 became a year where I completed two 10ks, two half marathons & secured a place in the 2017 London Marathon. I’ve learnt to use my time running to explore London, to find new routes and set myself personal targets. For me the best thing about being a runner is being able to lace up your trainers and head out to explore. Whether that be your town or city, your commute home or a mountain trail.
2017 is all about the London Marathon at the moment. After that I’m targeting a sub-90 minute half marathon, the completion of many more 10 & 5ks and venturing into the world of trail running.
